She started baking 30 years ago when she couldn’t find a cake to match the theme of her son’s first birthday. Soon after that a friend suggested she take a cake decorating class to de-stress from a high ranking corporate position. After discovering she had a talent she enrolled in pastry and catering classes. Upon receiving educational certificates in the field of Cake Decorating and Pastry Design she became a Wilton Method Instructor. During the 10 years as an instructor, Sonya conducted numerous cake shows and demonstrations in craft stores and recreational centers.
After moving to Las Vegas, she rented kitchen space in the back of the historical location formally known as the House of Donuts. When the retail space owner became ill and decided to retire he generously gave Sonya the option to stay and take over the retail space. After taking over the retail space and the kitchen with no working capital, many hard decisions had to be made including choosing to be homeless for nine months to save the business. Now as a successful business owner, she uses her spare time attending networking events to brand the business and its new logo. She gives away over 10,000 mini cupcakes per year to charitable causes and samples.
Despite the hurdles, Sonya feels like she is living her dream. It’s been a rollercoaster ride but Sonya is sure that her God has a plan and she is glad to be in it. Sonya gives God all the praise, honor and glory for all things past, present and all things to come because she know that nothing is impossible with God on her side.
